  5. THE STORY OF RIGHT HAND VS LEFT HAND

Thesis of the scene
Radio Raheem says love over powers hate in the end. “If I love you I love you, but if I hate you … The entire film is driven by the hate and anger that is spewing in the community. Raheem states that though there is constant hate,  love can and will still prevail. a prime example of this is even after Sal basically has Raheem killed Mookie and him and Mookie burns down his business the two can still have a conversation in the end.
Raheem uses boxing as a metaphor for the battle between love and hate. He also uses Cain and Able as an example of love and hate.
The scene takes place on the hot and heavy streets of Bedford Stuyvesant where racial tensions are high as well as the temperature.
The shots don’t cut theres is one continuous shot I feel like it helps the independent feel of the film, it looks less like a blockbuster and more like a story on screen
In Conclusion I chose this scene because I feel like it is one of those scenes that sums up an entire film in a matter of one short monologue. A story with a true theme is not one that takes 2 hours to explain, it is more than a series of events its a centralized point that is being explained in the form of a story.
The entire film is based on ones hate for another wether because of race or another issue (mainly race in this film) but Raheem states clearly that at the end of the day love will prevail. This is pointed out from Love daddy the voice of the film. The Symbolism in this film is amazing and it deserves the praise that it got.
